Map 1, now rechristened as The Bed of Dead Ley Lines, is the setting that establishes the tone of isolation and urgency for your campaign. Visually, it should convey to your players the sensation of walking through the 'corpse' of a river that once overflowed with mystical energy. Here is a detailed description for use at the table, divided into visual, mechanical, and sensory aspects: 🎨 Visual Aspects and Atmosphere. Canyon Walls: Two immense walls of sandstone, in a dark reddish-brown hue, rise nearly 20 meters high on the sides. They are steep and filled with vertical fissures, looking like the ribs of a stone giant. Sunlight barely touches the canyon floor, creating long, cold shadows even during the day. The Ground (The Mystic Riverbed): The ground is not made of soft sand, but of rustic mud that has dried and cracked into perfect hexagonal patterns. In the deepest crevices of the ground, instead of water, there is a fine gray powder—the remains of magic crystals that disintegrated when the world's energy evaporated. The Crypt Entrance: At the end of this natural corridor, the canyon terminates in a massive rock wall. Embedded directly into it is an enormous arched structure made of white marble stained by time, contrasting with the red rock surrounding it. The massive stone door is stuck, covered by dry vines that look petrified. ⚙️ Mechanical and Tactical Elements (For the Grid). If you are using miniatures or a grid map, this map is 24 meters (16 squares) long by 6 meters (4 squares) wide: The Dried Mud Zone (Difficult Terrain): In the center of the map, a 6-meter-long stretch requires caution. Walking there requires double movement, as the crust of cracked earth snaps and gives way under the weight of boots (perfect for creating tension if they need to run). The Narrow Fissure (Hiding Spot): Halfway along the path, on the right wall, there is a fissure in the rock only 60 centimeters wide. The Elf Mage can slide into it to gain total cover against any threat coming from the front, but the Dwarf Cleric, with his heavy armor and shield, would get stuck if he tried the same. The Marble Rubble (Height Advantage): Near the crypt entrance, pieces of ancient columns have collapsed onto the ground. Anyone who climbs onto this rubble gains 1.5 meters of height, receiving partial cover (+2 to AC) against anyone on the canyon floor.
