2. Royal Library. Grid Dimensions: 12x18 squares (1 square = 5ft / 1.5m). General Description: The Royal Library is an imposing hall with dark wood bookshelves stretching from floor to ceiling, filled with ancient tomes and scrolls. The scent of old paper and mildew is pervasive. While it is a place of knowledge, some sections appear untouched for decades, covered in a thick layer of dust. Map Elements: [A1-A18, B1-B18, C1-C18, D1-D18, E1-E18, F1-F18, G1-G18, H1-H18, I1-I18, J1-J18, K1-K18, L1-L18] Bookshelves: Tall, heavy shelves forming narrow aisles. They provide heavy cover for those hiding behind them. They can be tipped over with a DC 15 Strength check (as an action) to create barriers or deal damage (2d6 bludgeoning damage to anyone in the area). (1x18 squares each aisle, with 1 square of space between them). Interaction: The forbidden book (mentioned in the Amora campaign) is hidden in a less-frequented section, requiring a DC 13 Investigation check to find. [F9-F12, G9-G12] Central Reading Table: A large wooden table with a few chairs where scholars used to work. Provides light cover. (4x4 squares). [A1] Main Door: An ornate wooden door leading to the main castle hallway. [L18] Door to Archive Room: A smaller door leading to an even dustier and rarely used archive room. [D10-D12] Map Section: An area with a large world map of Phisom (official version) and other smaller maps. Can be used as light cover. (3x3 squares). [I5-I7] Library Ladder: A rolling wooden ladder used to reach the highest books. It can be pushed to block an aisle (DC 12 Strength check) or used as an improvised weapon. (1x3 squares). Battlefield Conditions: Lighting: Dim natural light enters through small windows high on the walls, creating many shadows. At night, it is near-total darkness, requiring light sources. Terrain: Flat, but the narrow aisles between bookshelves limit movement and line of sight. The floor may have small fallen objects (scrolls, books) that could cause tripping (DC 10 Dexterity check to avoid falling). Obstacles: The bookshelves are the main obstacles, creating a maze. The rolling ladder can be a tactical element. The library's silence amplifies sounds, making Stealth checks more difficult (Disadvantage unless a DC 12 Dexterity (Acrobatics) check is passed to move silently).
